Ready to move past basic repairs and start creating your own clothing? Whether you are an absolute beginner who has never touched a sewing machine, or a hobbyist looking to dive into garment construction, this hands-on course will give you the skills, confidence, and techniques to make clothes that fit.
In this course we’ll learn:
How to confidently use and troubleshoot your own sewing machine
How to select the appropriate fabric and interfacing for a project
Taking accurate body measurements and reading garment patterns
Mastering clean seams, edge finishes, straight lines, and curves
Crafting professional buttonholes and sewing on buttons
You’ll apply your new skills directly to a project of your choice! Select either a classic apron (perfect for absolute beginners) or a custom button-up shirt (great for a bit of a challenge). Students in this six week group course can expect to finish one project during class with a little outside practice, or dedicated stitchers can even tackle both.
Note: No prior sewing experience is required. Students in the group course must bring their own sewing machine. You’ll also need project fabric, muslin practice fabric, and notions. Patterns and interfacing will be supplied.
