The Ultimate Creative Workspace (For Just 20 Makers)
We aren't crowding people into a tight space or running a massive, impersonal convention. We have secured over 1,000 square feet of dedicated studio space in the ship’s exclusive Serenade Conference Room—meaning our small group of 20 will have an incredibly spacious, comfortable layout with plenty of room to spread out patterns and cut fabric.
Best of all? The studio is open daily from the first night of embarkation to the very last evening of the cruise. Because we aren't bound by traditional classroom hours, you can utilize our three full sea days to their absolute maximum - or slip into the studio for a early evening stitching session whenever inspiration strikes. The conference room will be open 9am-7pm on Sea Days and 3pm-7pm on Port Days (5pm on the last night).
TESTIMONIAL
“Before Jam's sewing retreat I had only had sewn quilting projects. Over the course of the weekend I learned how to take proper measurements for pattern construction, use serger without fear, and make custom designs on an embroidery machine. I was even able to apply my new skills to start a bias-cut dress project.
Jam is endlessly patient and super knowledgeable. His joy for garment making is inspiring and now I'm totally hooked. I had a great time and learned a lot. Thank you for the class and your patient teaching.”

Nature’s Fabrics - Wool Jersey Sponsor
Every cruiser receives 3 yards of high-end wool jersey, provided by our partners at Nature’s Fabrics.
If you haven’t worked with wool jersey yet, you are in for a revelation. This isn't your average fabric; it is the ultimate travel textile. It breathes naturally to keep you cool under the Caribbean sun, provides effortless warmth for breezy evenings on deck, and offers unparalleled odor resistance. Best of all, it drapes like a dream and is remarkably low-maintenance, meaning you can focus on the ocean views rather than the dry cleaner.
We chose to partner with Nature’s Fabrics because, as a small, family-run business, they mirror our own commitment to quality and precision. Their wool is consistent, their descriptions are technically accurate, and their service is as reliable as the fabric itself.

Every cut comes with the original selvedge - a mark of quality and authenticity that ensures you know exactly what you are sewing.
Wool: The Ultimate All-Season Fabric Many are initially intimidated by wool, but it is one of the most versatile, high-performance fabrics available. Whether you are crafting a structured blazer or tailored trousers, wool offers:
Superior Breathability: Even in the scorching Texas heat, fine wools (like the green suit pictured) offer a loose, airy weave that keeps you comfortable.
Natural Performance: Wool is naturally resistant to odors and stains, meaning your finished garments require significantly less maintenance than other fabrics.
Year-Round Comfort: From summer days to winter evenings, high-quality wool regulates temperature effortlessly.
Explore the Collection From vibrant Lambswool and Cashmere blends by Bower Roebuck (seen on the green suit below) to classic trouser-weight suitings, Kabbani’s inventory is a treasure trove for the serious maker. I’ve personally put their fabrics to the test, including machine-washing my own wool garments, and I can confidently say the drape and longevity are unmatched.
Ready to start your next project? Discover the exceptional quality of authentic British suiting for yourself - the same caliber of fabric I used to create this green suit. Explore the Kabbani Textiles Collection.

No, our t-shirt only option is suitable if you have no sewing experience. You do need sewing experience for making trousers.
-
We’re aiming for between 6 and 20 sewing participants. We may have more than that in our group due to non-sewing friends and family joining.
-
Absolutely - we have non-sewing options, and a meet and greet for those traveling with sewists.
-
Absolutely. We’d love to have some young aspiring sewists join in. Anyone underage must be accompanied by a legal guardian in the sewing room, so it’s best if they travel with a fellow sewist.
-
Absolutely. While t-shirts and trousers are the focus, feel free to bring any other projects you want. Our instructors are skilled at helping students with a wide variety of projects and sewing techniques.
-
Yes. While most of the participants will focus on making garments, you’re welcome to make anything you would like. Be sure to bring the necessary materials & notions as our room may not have anything set up particularly for quilting.
-
Jam Jenkins will be teaching the lessons along with another instructor if we get more than 8 attending.
-
If you do want to bring your own machine, it must be cleared by the cruise line. We’ll soon post the process for making sure you can bring your sewing machine on board. The quick summary is that you’ll need to take it to the conference room and leave it there for the duration of the cruise since sewing machines are not generally allowed onboard.
We’re still working out these details. Look for more information soon.
-
No. Cruise lines are very strict on irons. You may only use the approved iron provided in the sewing room.
-
No. Everyone is encourages to enjoy the port. That said, you’re more than welcome to use the sewing room on port days as much as you’d like from 3-7pm.

No, but it is transferrable. If you can’t make it, you can transfer the deposit to another person.
We have to plan the trip well in advance, so it’s not possible to make changes in how many are attending. We can make some minor adjustments in the chosen track?
-
Since the t-shirts and trousers require different machines & fabrics, it’s challenging for the organizers to make these changes. While we cannot guarantee that changes will be made, we’ll do our best to accommodate them where possible. Please give us the most advanced notice you can for the best chance at being able to change tracks.
-
Cruise lines are generally very accommodating. When you sign up, we’ll help you work with the cruise lines to make sure they have what you need.
-
Yes. Sometimes registered guests need to cancel. We’ll open up these spots for people on the waitlist.
-
We know people don’t come in standard sizes. This is why we draft patterns to your measurements instead of adapting standard sizes to a non-standard body. Our instructors will work with you on any fit issues you may experience, and we draft patterns that are designed to adapt to changing body sizes.
-
We won’t be scheduling any lessons during show times. Keep in mind that all activities related to sewing are optional, so feel free to take advantage of all the ship and this sewing group has to offer as you see fit.
As we have a 7:30pm dining time, you can typically make the 9:00pm and later shows, or skip our group dinner and see the early show.
-
We’ll have sergers and cover stitch machines available for making t-shirts. For the trousers we’ll supply straight stitch machines. We’re still working with sponsors on the specific make/model of machines, so we’ll be able to tell more later.
Sergers and cover stitch machines will be shared. Depending on the track, number of participants and sponsorships we may share some straight stitch machines.
-
Yes. You’ll need to make sure to bring all of the notions needed such as rivets, snaps and metal zippers.

Sewing leather typically does better on specialized sewing machines. If you plan on making leather trousers or other apparel, you may want to bring your own machine.
-
Absolutely. Wool t-shirts are the best. We’re still working on the details for the fabrics we’ll provide for the t-shirt track. Hobby Fabric Store is a great place to buy some.
-
No, we use a specially designed curve collar so you can use the same jersey as your t-shirt material.
-
It’s recommended, but not required.
-
We’ll provide detailed instructions upon registration.
-
Absolutely - you have the most new friends to make. We’re a friendly and inclusive bunch, and we’d love to meet you and make sure you feel welcome.
-
Absolutely. All of our patterns are designed for all genders and are drafted to your own measurements. This is part of the reason we’re doing trousers and t-shirts because people of all genders wear them.

We certainly hope to run this cruise at least once a year. Please tell your friends about it - the more people we have attending, the more frequently we can run the cruise. We intend to always keep the cruise small and personal, so we may even add more sailings within a year if demand is high enough.
-
Please use the contact form and tell me more of what you think would be good for an upcoming sewing cruise.
-
Fill out my contact form and tell me more about what you’d like to offer.
-
Yes we do. We’re looking for sponsorships of products, services, sewing machines and publicizing the event. Please check out our Sponsorship Opportunities page.
-
Not on this cruise. We’ll have passionate and skilled sewing instructors and a friendly crowd.
If you’re looking for a cruise with some sewing celebrities, consider the Claire Tyler New York to Southampton cruise in July starting at around $7K USD and featuring a talk from Kenneth King.
-
Trousers are notoriously difficult to fit. Until you have worn a pair or custom drafted trousers, you’re likely putting up with a poor fit in some area. We’re covering trousers on the cruise because sewists often need help with fitting them, settle for adapting standard sizing, or just give up entirely on making them. On this cruise we want you to leave not only with a newly sewn pair of trousers, but also with the pattern and skills to replace all of your existing trousers with new and improved versions.
-
T-shirts are a staple clothing item that many sewists either haven’t made or haven’t been happy with the results. Sewing a well finished t-shirt also requires specialized machines such as the serger and coverstitch machine. We’ll provide these on the cruise so you can see what it’s like to make a t-shirt with the proper machines.
We also cover t-shirts because they’re beginner friendly. People with no sewing experience can make great looking t-shirts that they are proud to wear.
