Did you have an embroidery machine but don’t know how to use it? Have you tried to use your embroidery machine but been unhappy with the results? Let me take some of the guesswork out of how to get started by offering an in home lesson. We’ll cover the basic such as:

  • hooping - putting your fabric in the embroidery frame

  • stabilizing - making sure your fabric doesn’t shift or pucker

  • adjusting tension - keeping the top thread and bobbin thread working together

  • needle selection - how to select the right size and shape needle

  • adhesives - how to adhere stabilizers

  • machine settings - what the different options on your machine control

  • thread weights - difference between embroidery thread and bobbins

We can also cover some more advanced topics such as:

  • special fabrics - how to embroider terry cloth or velvet

  • designs - how to identify quality

  • software - how to use open source software instead of expensive applications

  • fonts - how to use built-in or use/create your own

  • bobbin embroidery - using thick threads on the reverse side

I’ll bring some basic embroidery notions (stabilizers, adhesives, thread, needles). You’ll provide the embroidery machine, at least one hoop (frame for embroidery) and a small working space. When you reach out, let me know what you’re interested in learning and I can provide an estimate for about how long of a lesson we’ll need.

Don’t have an embroidery machine, but thinking about getting one? Reach out to me about getting some private lessons using my embroidery machine.
